A Complicated Kindness (Hardcover) by Miriam Toews It's the story of a mennonite girl growing up in Winnipeg - she's tragically hilarious and clearly not comfortable with Menno Simon's teachings - but she manages to see beauty and humour in little moments others might miss.... I've honestly had moments where I have been moved to tears - and then a few pages later I'm giggling like a school girl! FIVE star recommendation from this lassie!

Ewww. I lived in a town once filled with mennonites and brahmanites. They were a wierd bunch of people. Like a cult. Gives me nightmares.
I too lived in a town of mennonites! My neighbours were mennonites - town of holstein, ontario - population 300 (including the cows!)
Where did you live?
Great book!! Ahem...is it mine? I have a feeling it made it into your hands via the Andrea undergroud railroad!
P.s. Lived in same poop-town. Fed the deers mints and caught minnows in a bucket...don't think our heathen life styles were that much different than the mennonites. No temptations...no sin
