They are markers of the best traits of humanity. They are little outposts that signal - "I don't know you but you have lost your mitten. I hope you come back here and find it. Keep warm"
I saw a child's mitten on a pole today and it made me smile. Later on in the day I put a toque (canadian for winter hat) on a fire hydrant. It suited it actually! I hope the cold-eared canuck finds it later!

You should have pulled a "Butterfield" - shoved the toque on your head and went about yer business.
Pediculosis isn't all that bad...
To me, it's kind of like having your own personal sea monkey collection right there on top of your head..
