DONATE YOUR BOOKS! SAVE LIVES!
'James Bartleman, Lt. Gov. of Ontario, is appealing to Ontarians for donations to his 2007 Book Drive for native communities in Northern Ontario, Yukon, Nunavut, and northern Québec.
From Jan. 1 to Jan. 31, new and gently used children’s and young adult books can be dropped off at any OPP detachment in Ontario. With the support and assistance of the Canadian Forces, other voluntary organizations and shipping companies, these books will be shipped and distributed to aboriginal communities.
Bartleman says literacy is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and despair that has gripped so many Northern Ontario aboriginal communities.
"We need to give hope to children, both native and non-native, that the world cares about their future," said Bartleman, who visited schools and libraries as part of a day-long visit to Greater Sudbury in November 2006.' - source: Northernlife.ca
If you don't live in Ontario, there are other great literacy programs out there in need of books. Share the gift of literacy and clean UP that book shelf at the same time
