A MOMENT FOR REFLECTION AS THE LIGHT TURNS FROM RED TO GREEN

At the corner of my street the other day, I watched as a woman from the nearby funeral home stood in traffic, directing cars from the home parking lot, out into the street. She was the picture of authority, her right hand out, ordering a halt of traffic, her left hand encouraging timid drivers to defy the green light and join the funeral procession. As I walked along, I could see the interesting chain of cause-and-effect this was having. Those cars directly in front of her, waited patiently. Even in the city of Toronto, we have time to stop, and respectfully allow precedence for those making that final trip to the cemetery with their loved one.

The cars further back had no idea what was happening and began to honk their horns. One man was visibly upset, and showed it with a litany of honks. It fascinated me to realize that I was truly seeing the ripple effect of one's actions on another and I was also getting a good lesson as to how little we some times understand what others might be going through that day. The car five cars ahead of you may be attending a funeral - That's the gist of it. You just don't know. You just never know. I was extra patient and kind that day. Maybe there's a lesson like that in every day. Thanks to those who have been patient and kind to me when I've been five cars ahead.
